Reliable winter safety for heavy-duty operations and public access.
The Targówek Waste Incinerator in Warsaw, officially the Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Plant, handles over 300,000 tons of waste annually, generates energy for the city, and also offers public attractions—including a garbage truck overpass, a viewing platform on the chimney, and a 20,000 m² green roof.
Winter conditions created a risk of ice and snow on the truck wharf, threatening both safety and continuous operations.
The Solution
A DEVI snow melting system was installed on the truck wharf to provide 24/7 automated ice and snow removal.
To handle the weight of heavy vehicles during installation, heating cables were placed in 2 cm deep x 1 cm wide grooves cut into the sub-base asphalt and filled with liquid asphalt. A final asphalt wearing course was then laid over the base. With a power output of 400 W/m² (uninsulated base), the system ensures fast and reliable snow and ice melting even under heavy loads.
System details:
-
Heating area: ~750 m²
-
Total output: 300 kW
-
Heating cable: DEVIasphalt™ 30T/400V with 30 m cold tail
-
Controller: DEVIreg™ 850 with 4 ground sensors
-
Installation period: 2023–2024, completion 2025
The Result
✔ Continuous, safe operation of truck wharf
✔ Reduced risk of accidents and ice-related downtime
✔ Durable system designed for heavy-duty use
✔ Efficient, automated snow and ice management
This project demonstrates how DEVI solutions can ensure winter safety and operational efficiency even in heavy industrial environments.
